It was just a day ago that a serious security hole was revealed by folks over at Macrumors forum. The gaping security hole allowed unauthorized access to iPhone contacts even with passcode protection enabled. If that wasn’t all, they could also send an email or MMS once they gain access to your “locked” phone.
According to MacStories all you need to do to see the bug at work is to ensure that your passcode protection is on. Once that is done, tap on Emergency Call in the lower left corner in the lock screen. You will then be able to type in any number of your choice. Call the number and and as soon as the red button appear hit the sleep button. This will bring you to the phone contacts list!
Some others who “improvised” were actually able to send e-mails by tapping on a contact, and then selecting the “share contact” option.
A day after the bug was, made public, Apple has confirmed in a reply to Wired that it would be fixed in the next iOS 4 update scheduled in November. In a statement the company said, “We’re aware of this issue and we will deliver a fix to customers as part of the iOS 4.2 software update in November.”
What until then? Well, one suggestion we have is to never leave your iPhone unattended!
